Regents of Württemberg

The county of Württemberg emerged in south western Germany when the tribal duchy of Swabia disintegrated during the 13th century. 1441-1496 and 1617-1642 was Württemberg divided between different branches of the ruling dynasty. It was elevated to a duchy 1495, to a electorate 1803 and to a kingdom 1805. The monarchy was overthrown after Germany lost the First World War and Württemberg became a republic.
